Minor accidents

You just turned 10 months and is very 'adventourous', constantly crawling around, climbing and pulling yourself up on everything and letting go when standing, hoping to catch on to something when you lose your balance. You have also learnt to open cupboard doors and drawers.

Thus, I was not too surprised when your carers in nursery told me you fell and hit your head when you slipped from standing, resulting in a bruise a few days ago. But, I still wanted to know exactly what and how it happened, and surprisingly found it very difficult to question and ask them to be more careful, without sounding rude or offensive.

Today, I saw a scratch on your face and was told that another kid scratched you because you were both going for the same toy, apparently an accident. How can that happen? I felt stuck in the similar position of wanting to tell them to ensure it does not happen again without patronizing. It's so difficult to strike the balance between being serious and firm, yet chilled out when wanting to make a point across. Do all mothers find it this difficult when wanting to protect their child? Hopefully being tactful in this issue will come with time.

Camping

We survived 3 days of living in the middle of nowhere. It was quite an adventure and experience camping with a little baby. The weather was glorious when we arrived and we had a fun BBQ. But, it all changed when we entered the tent. You had the most bewildered look on your face and cried, not wanting to sleep. You must be wondering where in the world you were, and why confined in such a small space. You woke up many times and I felt so sorry for 'P' who took the second bedroom in our tent.

Saturday was miserable as it rained the whole day. The poor kids (9 altogether) were so disappointed as they could not build the campfire that they were waiting for. It was also not fun for us as you were frustrated being cooped up. Keeping you entertained was hard work with the few toys we had. I was so tempted to hop in the car and drive home. Unfortuantely we could not unpitch the tent in the rain and so had no choice but to stay put, which turned out to be a good thing in the end. It's been a long while since we slept so early.

Sunday was a different day altogether. We were all awake by 5 plus and enjoyed the fresh air and scenery. You saw chickens, sheep, a pony, pigs and cows. We then had games with a full English breakfast.

The kids also built the campfire and we had 'ikan bakar' from 'river Tesco', 'roti bakar' and baked potatoes, carrot and butternut squash. You thoroughly enjoyed yourself playing with the kids and napped really well tucked in your pushchair, out in the fresh air.

Would I go again? Probably in a year's time when you're much older :) and after much prayer for good weather.

Runny nose

*Sigh* Your runny nose came back today. You resisted it for 4 full days in nursery but thankfully it's only runny nose. Hopefully there's going to be nothing else and you will continue to sleep well. You had a record breaking sleep through of 11pm till 6am 2 nights ago. I was the one who woke up at 5am to check that all was well :)

It's been 2 weeks??

How time flies!! I know it has been a while since I jotted down anything but was shocked when I checked the dates.. WOW!! Lots has happened..

Your grandparents have arrived and now left for their Eastern Europe tour. They brought toys and clothes and you were totally pampered by them and your 'ah yis'. In the toys were also 3 teethers but you were still faithful to your chicken. Although, you may end its life early with the way you whack it.

You skipped nursery for a week and totally recovered from your constant runny nose. It's amazing that I don't have to wipe off mucus from your nose anymore. Let's hope that you will develop immunity to this nursery virus soon. Thankfully you settled into nursery again easily.

You attended your first graduation and saw 'sam yi' become a dentist with honours. You were very well behaved throughout the ceremony. You also had your first professional photograph taken as part of the graduation photos. Although you were very tired, the photographer managed to make you smile/laugh for every shot. She was good!! We're trying to use her trick now to get your attention for photos.

I had quite a stressful week at work. But, coming back home to your smile, laughter, hug and smothering makes me forget about work and reminds me that there are more important things in life.

You also have 2 prominent bottom teeth which are razor sharp. Yup. I have felt your bite. I am also getting a little more sleep with you only waking up twice at night. This is a luxury and I am hoping and praying very hard that you will never revert to waking up hourly again.

We are now looking forward to camping this weekend. Hopefully the weather will be good.

Down again

I got another phone call to pick you up from nursery again today as you had a fever. I am just trying to jot down how many times you will be falling ill from nursery. Thank God it's not very serious this time as you were still your usual self and had an appetite. It's probably your flu and bad cough. Hopefully you will get better soon.

On the up side, you've finally hit 8kg and weighed 8.1kg over the weekend. Looks like the constant feeding at every opportunity worked and you're nearly back to your 9th centile :) And, only 4 more days to go before we will all get some pampering as 'gong gong', 'popo' and 'sai yi''s arriving. You will be totally spoilt and can enjoy not going to nursery. How fun!!

NNnngg...dah.. AAaahhh.. Dededede..

That's what you say to us, in the morning, evening and middle of the night when you wake up. Unfortunately we still do not understand what you are trying to say but it's really fun seeing you trying to 'talk', except in the middle of the night when all we want to do is sleep. Sometimes, it does seem as if you're shouting at us.
You have also become very interactive in your play.

Hairstyling

I can't believe somebody in church asked us whether we put gel on your hair to make it stand up. I know your daddy can't leave the house without gel, but.... you're less than a year old!!
To be honest, your hair IS always 'standing' up, as if it has been 'electricuted'. It's amazing how it can happen though, as your hair is so fine and soft. I wonder when it will start to flatten?

First picnic

Your daddy turned 31 about a week ago, and it was 'celebrated' by going on our first family picnic, with Ming. It was planned for the morning but the sun decided to hide behind clouds and so we ended up in McDs for breakfast. Thankfully the weather turned for the better and we headed out in the evening. Unfortunately Ming missed the fun.

You were so excited to be out. It's probably the first time you properly felt the wind.
You were totally engrossed in the can of Nescafe.
Father and son deep in thought - notice the resemblance
Tired but still not wanting to go home?

My first night out alone

I had my first night out on Monday with my colleagues since you were born. Yup, your daddy played with you, fed you, bathed you and put you to sleep all by himself!! I was a little anxious initially because he has not put you to sleep before. But, I was pleased to come home to peace and calmness :) Me of little faith...
